The insured of National Health Insurance who are paying the premium can be reimbursed of part of the medical expenses incurred overseas.

iProcedures for Reimbursementj

  1. First, you have to pay the full amount of the medical expenses by yourself.

  2. Do not fail to obtain their receipts together with Attending Physicianfs Statements and Itemized receipts which are certified by the physician(s).
    @

  3. After returning to Japan, you can receive reimbursement by claiming goverseas medical expensesh in the required forms together with the documents mentioned above and their Japanese translations to Kokumin Kenko Hoken-ka (the National Health Insurance Section, 047-436-2393) of the city office.

    It is highly recommended that you will carry required forms (available at Kokumin Kenko Hoken-ka) with you for your trip with the@detailed description.

(Notes)

  1.  Reimbursement is made only on illnesses/injuries covered by National Health Insurance.

  2. Reimbursement is not the same as you paid but is calculated according to the insurance schedule with co-payments by the insured.
    @

  3. No expenses are covered when the purpose of the trip is to receive medical treatments.

    Because treatment costs can widely vary depending on the countries and the medical institutions, it is a good idea to purchase overseas travel insurances.
