Dial 110 for Accidents or Crime (ex.@car accidents, burglary, attacked by someone, or fights)

Dial 119 for Paramedic and Fire Department (ex. fire, sudden sickness, or severe injuries)

All calls are accepted 24 hours a day. 

 When you make the call: Calm down and get yourself together.

  1. Use a public phone or stabled home phone if possible.

    Because it will indicate the exact location of the call to the Police or the Paramedic / Fire Department.

  2. Dial Numbers are the same with PHS and Cell Phone.

    In this case, you must notify your location to the Police or Paramedic/Fire Department.  You can inform them by giving the address printed on telephone poles, signs above signal lights, signs on street corners, and vending machines.

  3. The Police have a translator for English, Chinese, Korean, and others.

    The Paramedic / Fire Department do not.  Try to have someone who speaks Japanese make the call.

  4. If you have a disability in speech or listening, you can report (Accidents/ crimes) by FAX or E-mail

  5. When making the nature of the call, you should also be prepared to answer other@questions that may follow.

Here are the actual procedures taken and the orderly questions asked when the call is made.

  1. What is the problem, Crime or Accident?

    ex. car accident, burglary, murder, a person missing, attacked, fights, etc. 

  2. When did it happen?

    ex. 19:37 or about 30 min. ago

  3. Where did it happen?

    ex. It happened at ‚ ‚-chome, ‚ ‚-cho in xx-shi.

  4. What is the present situation? What kind of accident?

    ex. the damage, the conditions of the injury, a burglary with belonging stolen, or etc.

  5. Anything about the criminal?

    ex. There are ##persons involved, approximately 000 centimeters in height, or dressed in xxx fashion.

  6. Your name ?

    ex. Joe/Jane Doe, phone number 111-2222, aa-choume bb-cho in Funabashi City

For Paramedics and Fire Departments: Dial 119

  1. Is it fire or someone Injured ?

    ex. Itfs fire or someone injured.

  2. Where is it ?

    ex. zzz yyy-cho in xxx-shi,  2nd floor and zzz room etc.

  3. Help is on the way so relax and stay put but do not hang up the phone if possible.

    ex. Ifll stay on the line, and wait for further instruction.   

  4. What is the situation of the fire / the injury ?

    [Fire] ex. Someone is still trapped on the 2nd floor of the burning building. There is a disabled person lying by the fire.

    [Paramedic]The orderly questions asked when the call is made will be as follows.

    ex

    1. Is it a sudden sickness, injury, or an accident?

    2. How many people are injured?

    3. What is the situation of the injury?  broken bone, bleeding,@etc.

    4. Are they conscious/ unconscious?

    5. Are they breathing?

    6. Do they have a pulse?

    7. Tell the phone number you are using (may indicate your location.)!  Itfs 000- 000 -0000.

For Fire:

  1. The 1st person to discover the scene should always do their best to put out the fire.

    The quicker you deal with fire, the faster it will be extinguished.

    Have someone else who can speak Japanese to take care of the call to 119.

  2. Always check the EXIT and the place where the Fire Extinguisher is set.

 For Paramedics:

  1. Always carry your ID and for those who have had any medical treatment, make a list of your doctors,

    your sicknesses, and medicine names so the Paramedics could give you the proper treatment before

    arriving at any hospitals.  It will save a great deal of time, pain, and precious lives.

  2. When the patient is in critical conditions, there is a vehicle called the g Doctor Car h that has an medical

    Doctor aboard 24 hours ( though Funabashi City has only one vehicle ).

  3. When you see or hear someone in trouble, try to help them if possible.

    ex. prevention from the loss of blood, mouth to mouth resuscitation, keeping them warm / cold, or justcalling them to keep up their hopes

  4. It is better if you tell the paramedics which hospital you prefer to be taken to(the one with your family doctor).

  5. There is a licensed private paramedic company available if you are not in a hurry.

    It is like a medical taxi; to pick you up, wait, and bring you back home.
