How about trying hot Ton-jiru in cold winter?  It is a kind of Miso soup, typical Japanese soup cuisine.  Ton-jiru contains various vegetables and pork, which is nutritionally balanced.

Ingredients ( 4 servings )  】

  1. 100g thin sliced pork,  100g Japanese radish, 50g carrot,  50g Gobo ( burdock ),  2 taros, 1/2 Tofu,  1 long onion

  2. 4 cups water, 2 tsps. Dashi-no-moto,   70g Miso (Japanese powdered stock )

Directions 】

  1. Cut the pork into bite-size pieces, the radish and the carrot into leaf shape (Icho-giri). Peel and cut the Taro into half-rounds (Hangetsu-giri).  Scrape off the skin of Gobo, cut diagonally and soak in water to prevent discoloring.

  2. Cut the long onion into 5mm strips.

  3.  Cut the Tofu into small cubes.

  4. Put the water and Dashi-no-moto into a pan and bring it to a boil.  Put the pork first and then the vegetables except long onion, and stew them for 78 minutes.

  5. Add the Tofu, and season with Miso.

  6. Put the soup into each bowl and place the minced onion on it.
