Omisoka (New Year's Eve)

We prepare for the New Year, cleaning the house thoroughly, cooking the dishes for the New Year. At night we eat buckwheat noodle watching the national event of "Kohaku Uta Gassen" (Singing battle of professional male singers versus female singers) on TV. Then we hear the bells of temples ringing the old year out.  Each bell rings 108 times. 108 represents 108 evils.
