7th(Mon) :

Tanabata Festival

@

This is one of the Japanese traditional summer events which originated in a Chinese legend in which a separated couple, the Weaver Star (Vega) and the Cowherd Star (Altair), are allowed to meet only once a year@on the seventh night of the seventh lunar month.

Children write their wishes on strips of fancy paper and hang them on branches of a bamboo tree hoping that they come true on the occasion of the reunion.

The pools will be open at Kaihin Park.

You can enjoy the running water pool with a circuit of about 300 meters, the water slider and the pool for infants.

The pools will be open every day through Aug. 31st (Sun).

The introduction of industries in the city, fleamarkets, portable shrines, parades of Japanese folk dance and Bakamen Odori (Foolish mask dance) will be presented.

All of the family members gather to hold memorial services for their ancestors.

Also on this occasion many people, young and old in Yukata (cotton summer Kimono), dance joyfully in a circle at grounds of school, shrines and temples.

The big pageant of fireworks at Funabashi Fishing Port

It will start at 19:30. However, if the weather is not favorable, it will be postponed to 21st (Thurs) or 22nd (Fri).

@ 21st(Thu):

Shishimai (Lionsf dance)  at Honkakuji temple at Komurocho.

The dance is scheduled to start around 15:30.

Three lions will dance wildly, praying for sweeping away the evils and clearing off epidemics.

This dance is designated as one of the cultural assets of Chiba Prefecture.

Disaster drills at all of 55 cityfs primary schools. 

We will carry out a fire-fighting drill and first aids. etc which are voluntarily planned by neighborhood associations.
