-A traditional folk culture
survived up to the present-

The autumn festival season will soon come round at Shinto shrines. You will look at performances and listen to music in various traditional events of autumn festivals such as a parade of portable shrine, a musical accompaniment, gShishi-Mai Danceh and gKagura (Shinto music and dance)g. Unfortunately some of them have been discontinued because of decrease in successors to perform them.

gKagurah was a stage drama that people in a village had originally begun to perform   thanking a community deity for an abundant crop and praying for safety of their village.  Some of shrines therefore have gKagura-Den (A stage for Kagura)h for village people to perform gKagurah thereon.

Fortunately in Funabashi City, gUjiko (people under the protection of their community deity)h and a number of dedicated local people continue to perform gKagurah as successors of historical traditions.  A lot of gKagurah are stage dramas made based on Japanese ancient myth. Especially gYo-Kagurah performed at night will convey you its fantastic and mysterious atmosphere in olden times.

Funabashi City has designated them as the Cityfs Intangible Folk Cultural Properties.

Why donft you visit one of Shinto shrines to enjoy its festival and its traditional folk culture in Funabashi City?
