Hina Doll’s Festival on Mar. 3rd is also called Hina Festival. It is to
hope girls to grow up lively. Hina Doll is like a guardian angel to take
over troubles like sickness instead of a girl.
Hina Dolls, Shiro-sake (made from fermented rice), Hishi-mochi (a diamond-shaped
colored rice cake), Hina-arare (bite-sized crackers made from rice), peach
flower and etc. are displayed on that day. As foods, Chirashi-Sushi and
clear soup containing clams are prepared.
Events of Hina Doll’s Festival are performed in various towns. The famous
event in Chiba Prefecture is “Katsuura Big Hina Festival” in Katsuura-city.
This event is planned from Feb. 21st (Fri.) till Mar. 3rd (Mon.) in year
2014. In that term, more than 25,000 Hina Dolls are displayed in various
placea of the city. Especially, more than 1,000 Hina Dolls are displayed
on whole 60 stone steps of Tomisaki-shrine and here is lighted up in the
evening. In addition, various events are also planned, so please go to
see by all means. You can go to Katsuura-city by JR train from JR Funabashi
Station. It takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes and the train ticket costs
Furthermore, May 5th is the day for boys that is called the Boy’s Festival.
