Japanese Cooking~Tonkatsu (Breaded Pork Cutlets)

 

 

Tonkatsu is one of the most popular western style foods in Japan and has now become Japanized.

The Japanese word “Katsu” has a meaning of “win”. So people prefer to eat Tonkatsu before having a game or an important examination. Please try Japanese style Tonkatsu.

Ingredients (4 servings)

4 pork loin fillets (1cm thick each), a small amount of salt and pepper, 3 tbsp. flour, 1 egg, 1 cup dried bread crumbs, salad oil for deep frying, 4 leaves cabbage,12 cherry tomatoes, Japanese mustard, Tonkatsu sauce

Directions

1Make 2 or 3 shortcuts across the line of the pork fillets and pound with a meat pounder to tender. Sprinkle with salt and pepper on both sides.

2.  Cover the pork in flour. Dip in beaten egg and then coat with dried bread crumbs evenly.

3.  Shred cabbage and soak in water and drain. Wash tomatoes.

4.  Heat salad oil(160170) in a frying pan and fry till the pork turns golden brown and turn over.

5.  Arrange the shredded cabbage in a little mound on a plate, garnish with cherry tomatoes and place Tonkatsu. Serve with mustard and Tonkatsu sauce.

Note: Tonkatsu sauce is thick and rich in flavor. It is sold at supermarkets.
