The season of hay fever (pollinosis)

The season of hay fever starts around February.

Hay fever is an allergic symptom which brings sneeze, running nose, stuffy nose, itchy eyes, red eyes, and watery eyes.

In Japan, main cause of hay fever is cedar pollen and cypress pollen. It is said that 20% of Japanese are suffering from hay fever.

Hay fever patients are found all over the world, however, main cause of hay fever is different. It is cedar pollen in Japan and in China, but it is poaceae pollen in Europe, and ragweed pollen in the U.S.

Preventing hay fever, it is important to wear a mask when you go out not to breath in pollen. When you come back home, dust off pollen properly before you enter home. And also don’t forget to gargle your throat, and to wash your face.

In this season, you can get pollen information together with weather forecast on TV.

If you feel that you are suffering from hay fever, the first thing you do is to go to see an otolaryngology doctor.

Antihistamines are helpful against sneeze and running nose. Remember this kind of medicine often makes you drowsy; you must be careful when you drive a car.

Mental stress is another cause of hay fever. So, Managing your mental stress is important.
