It is a big festival held once every 6
years, in the Bull year and Sheep year.
This is called
Year Festival) because this is held once every 7 years
according to "Kazoe doshi" (East Asian age
The "Mikoshis" (portable shrines) of Ninomiya Jinja
in Funabashi and other 8 shrines in Funabashi, Chiba,
Yachiyo, and Narashino get together for this big festival.
More than 550 years ago, a pregnant wife of a feudal lord
had no sign of delivery long after due date and the lord
asked a Shinto priest to pray for the safe delivery.
Soon after that, the wife delivered a boy safely and the
lord held a big festival to express his thanks.
This is believed to be the origin of this festival although
there are various other legends.
It is said that "Shichinen Matsuri" is a
festival to pray safe delivery and thank the god after a
baby is born safely.
This is the year of bull. It is going
to be held on September
13 and November 21, 22, and 23. The 9 shrines' "Mikoshis"
"Kagura" (sacred music and dances) will be played on
the stage, and you will see various stalls. Why don't you

Funabashi City (tel. 047-472-1213)), please take the Keisei
Line Bus or the Shin-Keisei Line Bus for "Ninomiya Jinja"
from the north exit of JR Tsudanuma Station and get off at
the final stop.
