To Avoid Influenza Infection

wash your hands gargle wear a mask.

Late autumn to winter is the time when influenza including swine flu or the Novel Influenza A (H1N1) is on the increase.

Let us take care not to get infected with influenza; also not to transmit one to others.

  1. Symptoms
High fever, cough, nasal discharge, headache, general fatigue, muscle pain (and/or diarrhea and vomiting in case of swine flu).

  2. How you get infected
People get infected with influenza by inhaling its virus in the patients’ cough, sneeze or saliva. Incidentally, the splash of cough or sneeze flies 2 meters away.

When a patient covers his mouth with hands at a time of cough or sneeze, and then touches door knobs, straps of trains/buses, etc., the virus attaches to them.

Touching eye, nose or mouth of the uninfected with hands which contacted the virus-contaminated knobs/straps, etc. causes infection.

  3. Tips to avoid influenza
When a family member gets infected with influenza or you go out, always wear a mask.

To avoid inhaling splash, turn away your face, or cover your mouth or nose with tissue paper when an unmasked person coughs or sneezes.

After returning home, do not fail to gargle and wash your face and hands with soap for not less than 15 seconds.

Influenza vaccination by the middle of December is also recommendable.

Refer to nearby clinic/hospital for details.
